About the Charleston lake Area
Charleston Lake is located in South Eastern Ontario, just northeast of Gananoque. The lake is carved out of the Frontenac Axis, a relatively narrow extension of the Canadian Shield bedrock which dominates the landscape of Northern Ontario. The lake is the principle watershed for the Gananoque river. Charleston Lake Provincial Park is located on the shores of the lake, and offers camping, hiking, boating, fishing and interpretive sessions. Charleston Lake is one of the best fishing spots in the area.
Natives once sheltered under rock overhangs on the shores of this coldwater lake north of the St. Lawrence River, then wealthy Victorian cottagers summered here. The rugged look of the north blended with the south still draws hikers and canoeists to these scenic shores and winding trails.
The Lake is 45 minutes from the Thousand Islands International Bridge, 45 minutes north east of Kingston, about an hour and a half from Ottawa, 3 hours from Toronto and 2 hours from Montreal.
